Secondary Damage
After water damage in a home, it is common to have secondary damage. This is the cause of moisture that is left behind when the damage is not cleaned up correctly. An issue that can arise from leftover moisture is mold. This is a quick-growing organism that spreads in small patches of moist walls and carpet. It is crucial that mold is removed as quickly as possible to prevent further spread. Wood rot contributes to black mold growing when wood elements in your home are not properly dried.
If water isn't dried completely after damage, moisture can stay in walls. If it is spread and seeped to outlets, it can increase the chance of potential electrical shock.
Hidden pipes can also be at risk with secondary water damage. In wet conditions, metal pipes can begin to rust and lead to bigger issues. Bursting pipes would make water damage much more serious.
